BQ34Z110: Issue to write parameters with BQstudio/EV2400

Part Number: BQ34Z110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO

Hi,

We would like use BQ34Z110 to get our batterie gauge (only). Our batteries are 12S NiMH.

We have install BQstudio/EV2400 and get values from the IC. The values returned are close to be good.

In scan mode, the Register page has activity depending on current direction.

The button PIN_CONTROL_EN change the PCTL_EN (bit4-Manufacturer status)

But we can't modify any value:

- We tried the Calibration but it has no changes on the values (I/V/T) measured

- If we change the number of serial cells (default =1) to 12 / press Write_All / press Read_All, the value is reset to 1.

- same for design_capacity_mAh of data_memory, impossible to fix.

- Sec1 & Sec0 in full access (already checked)

Can you help me to pass this point where nothing seems use-able. The IC is running but we can't do anything !

Thanks

our BQstudio view :

  • Hello Laurent,

The reported voltage must be above the threshold specified in data memory to allow changes. Check the voltage divider values and correct it so that the reported voltage is higher than this threshold.

  • Hi Shirish,

Thanks a lot for your very fast reply.

Somehow you pointed an issue: the voltage measured on BAT pin is over the 0.9V requested (in fact we increased the number of cells from 10 to 12 and miss to update this parameter)

I've changed the divider and get 0.84V now, but the behavior is still exactly the same (impossibility to set any value). You can check our updated BQstudio view :

About the data memory, the parameter Flash Update OK Voltage is set at 2.8V (no possibility to change it) while the IC is powered in 5V.

Voltages en BAT (0.84V) and REGIN (5V) are OK but no possibility to fix values in data flash.

    BR,

    Laurent

  • Hello Laurent,

The BAT pin voltage needs to be higher. See the quick start guide on how to setup the EVM for reference on setting up the voltage divider. www.ti.com/.../sluu904
