TPS61022: question

Part Number: TPS61022

Hello Experts,

My customer has question as follows. Would you please answer them?
1. Will the device get damage/reverse current flow if the external supply voltage(less than rated voltage of VOUT-pin) is connected to VOUT-pin while device is normal operation?
2. Will the device get damage/reverse current flow if the external supply voltage(less than rated voltage of VOUT-pin) is connected to VOUT-pin when the input voltage is less than UVP or the EN-pin is "L"?

Best Regards,
Fujiwara

  • Hi Fujiwara-san,

See my reply per your questions:

    1. Will the device get damage/reverse current flow if the external supply voltage(less than rated voltage of VOUT-pin) is connected to VOUT-pin while device is normal operation?

[WW]No reverse current is allowed when TPS61022 is in PFM operation. However, note reverse current is still allowed if device is in pass-though state or FPWM.

    2. Will the device get damage/reverse current flow if the external supply voltage(less than rated voltage of VOUT-pin) is connected to VOUT-pin when the input voltage is less than UVP or the EN-pin is "L"?

[WW]The device shall be in true disconnection between input and output when shutdown.

  • Hi Wenhao,

I just would like to confirm about answer of Q1.
    - The reverse current will not be flow if device is in PFM operation.
    - If device is in pass-through state or FPWM, the reverse current will flow. But device will not get damage.
    Is my understanding correct?

    Best Regards,
    Fujiwara

  • Hi Fujiwara-san,

    - The reverse current will not be flow if device is in PFM operation ->Yes

    - If device is in pass-through state or FPWM, the reverse current will flow. But device will not get damage.->Cannot promise as how much current can flow through TPS61022 is not controlled. If reverse source has large current capability, this could break TPS61022.
