BQ2024: Replacing bq2022A

Part Number: BQ2024
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2022A, BQ2026

Hi

We would like to replace bq2022A with bq2024 since these two parts are pin-to-pin, but I would like to double check to see if there is anything need to be considered when programming the same image, such as commands, memory location, etc.

Thanks.

  • Hello Jack,

We would recommend they replace with the BQ2026 instead. It is also pin-to-pin but it has many bug fixes and improvements.

That part is handled by a different team that may know more. But I would recommend they read the datasheet and see if there are any differences.

  • Hi Luis,

    Thanks for the reply.

But when I look the bq2026 datasheet, there are some commands missing compared to bq2022, for example: search serialization ROM, Read Memory/Page CRC, Program command, etc.

If our system is using those commands, then bq2026 device won't able to respond, right.

  • Hello Jack,

I see that the commands missing compared to the BQ2022A are Program Profile, Read Memory Page CRC and Program Control.

It seems the Write Memory sequence is different for both parts(bq2026 and bq2022a). Program Profile and Program Control seem to tie to writing to memory, so this may have to be adjusted. The BQ2022A and BQ2024 are older parts so they're difficult to support, but I believe you could drop in a bq2024 and it should work.

Ideally we would recommend not to use the BQ2024 and instead opt in with the BQ2026 to avoid any future issues that may be caused by the bugs in the IC. I am not sure what procedure you would have to take to accomplish this change. If they don't want to use the bq2026, then it may be preferable to stick with the BQ2022A.
