LP87644Q1EVM: LP8764x Evaluation Module Unable to Program

Part Number: LP87644Q1EVM

Dear Support,

After the first programming of the device (I made sure not to lock the EEPROM) now when the device starts, it reports:

SEVERE_ERR_INT and FSM_ERR_INT errors.

The rails have outputs and I can read all the registers however, when I even write into just one register the device stops communicating.

When I try to re-program the device the same thing happens, during programming the nINT LED turns off and the device becomes disconnected from the AEVM Controller.

Thanks,

Lauri

  • Hi Lauri,

Thank you for the question. What errors are you reading from the INT_SEVERE_ERR and INT_FSM_ERR Registers?

    Thanks,

    Daniel W

  • Dear Daniel,

    PFSM_ERR_INT and IMM_SHUTDOWN_INT

    Thanks,

    Lauri

  • Hi Lauri,

Based on the interrupts there is issue in the PFSM configuration and device cannot operate anymore. Unfortunately this also prevents re-configuration since device goes to SAFE_RECOVERY state and with the sample on the EVM (first revision) it is death lock.

Can you share the NVM what you configured to device? If you don't want to share publicly please contact your local field team.

    BR, Jari

  • Here are the steps I did and I don't recommend for anyone with the (first revision) EVM to repeat them:

    1. Configure the Settings for the device in Quick-start and verify externally on the actual device.

    2. Download current settings into a binary file in NVM Validation.

    3. Upload the binary file via Program file in NVM Configuration to the the device.

    4. Made sure to say No to "Do you wish to lock the device ?"

I have ordered a replacement EVM board.

Would you be able to provide a sample *.json with known good Configuration file for the NVM Configuration section, which includes matching and safe PFSM for these (first revision) EVM-s? (The *.json with the factory shipped settings would be good)

    Thanks,

    Lauri

  • Hi Lauri,

Well, that is not the intended way to generate new NVM configuration. This way you cannot update PFSM sequences which causes problem with device then.

I have attached the *.json file for original EVM configuration to start with.

  • Dear Jari,

It was very difficult to configure the PFSM sequences based on the instructions provided in the user guide (the templates provided are pretty much useless).
This is why I tried to not change the PFSM sequence at all and only change the Buck settings I needed.

The *.json file for original EVM configuration will hopefully take care of that and help other users running into the same difficulties.

As for the SAFE_RECOVERY state which on the EVM (first revision) results in a death lock, I hope will not be an issue in the release version of the chip.

    Thanks,

    Lauri

  • Hi Lauri,

Please be noted that this device is still in pre-production phase. Support material and GUI are still evolving and will be more clear and easy to use after RTM.

I hope original *.json file will help you to define what you need the device to do.

Death lock issue is resolved in final release version.

    Best regards,

    Jari
