TPS22810: Vin absolute maximum vs recommended: functional difference?

Part Number: TPS22810

We are using the TPS22810DRVR in an application as a signal switch (output current < 1mA). The Vin range for the design is 5-17V but we would like to be able to use it in a system where Vin can be up to 20V. The spec indicates an absolute maximum of 20V and recommended operating maximum of 18V, so I would like to know the potential consequences of operating the part at 20V. My guess is that functionality is not guaranteed at 20V. I have not simulated the circuit since I wasn't sure if the sim results would be valid for Vin > 18V.

Thanks -Jason

  • Hello Jason,

Operating the device outside of the recommended operating conditions but within the ABS ratings can result in the device performing outside of the specifications of the datasheet. Performance is not guaranteed. Operating outside of the ABS ratings can result in damage to the device. We do not recommend designing our part into a system that exceeds the recommended operating conditions.
