TPS22914: Reverse current flow

Hi Team,

My customer is considering using the TPS22914 to conduct current in both directions.

Only one side will be ON/OFF.

The direction of the current flow changes depending on the surrounding conditions.

Is there any problem with this operation?

I would like to know the Vf of the internal body diode.

Operation

　Vin -> Vout (1.8-2.6V/0.2-2mA)　

　　With ON/OFF

　Vin <- Vout (2.6V/35mA)　　　　

　　No ON/OFF

The device can operate in the way you've described. The forward biased voltage is not data we have off-hand; however, I will contact design and see if this is information we can provide for you. I would expect a response by the end of this week.

Hello Kenji,

After further evaluation I would not recommend using this device bidirectionally due to the internal body diode not being specified for the same current that the device is when the device is disabled.

I know the current flowing from Vout is not large, but will it be a problem to flow 35mA?

Kenji,

While that is a small current and would likely not be an issue- we cannot guarantee the operation due to the body diode ratings not being specified and tests to ensure its reliability haven't been performed.
