TPS22920: Enabling the switch into a short-circuit

Part Number: TPS22920

Hi,

I'll be using this load switch, but a question came to mind when I was reading the datasheet.

The board I'm designing is powering-up a device under test. So I added the TPS22920 to protect the regulator when turning on the device I'm currently testing.

The thing is, rarely, the device under test might have short-circuits. I saw this explanation in the datasheet : "To limit the voltage drop on the input supply caused by transient inrush currents when the switch turns on into a discharged load capacitor or short-circuit, a capacitor [...]". I'm not sure what will actually happen at the output if it's shorted.

What will happen if I enable the switch when the output is a short-circuit? Will it clamp at the load switch's max current (4A), or will the IC just break?

Thank you,

Sam
