UC2856-Q1: 300 W DC/DC converter for auxiliary power applications with automotive rating

Part Number: UC2856-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UC2825A-EP, UCC28220-Q1

Hi TI Team,

For 110 V_nom (±40%) input DC and 24 V (300W) output DC/DC converter WEBENCH suggests only LLC topology with controller ICs not having automotive rating. I'm interested in employing Forward or Push-Pull topology but this time WEBENCH comes with no design saying that the maximum output power is 120 W for available designs. Any suggestions regarding this issue? Since I assume I should be able to use most of the Forward or Push-Pull controllers such as UC2856-Q1, UC2825A-EP, UCC28220-Q1.

Thanks.

  • Hello Suheyl,

WEBENCH is not perfect.  I noticed most of the automotive designs have a maximum input of 40V.  So try "36V" or "40V" as your VMAX to get recommendations other than LLC.  Also, you might try looking for AC/DC solutions on WEBENCH.  AC/DC designs routinely have VMAX well above 40V.  Of course, disregard the input rectifier from any AC/DC designs but consider the controller.  Lastly, use the manual search method:  from ti.com, click on Products > Power Management > AC/DC and DC/DC Switching Regulators > PWM Controllers to see TI's portfolio of Forward and Push-Pull controllers.

Good luck and thank you for considering TI's products.

    Regards

    Eric
