WEBENCH-POWER-DESIGNER: About webench results of TPS61236P

Part Number: WEBENCH-POWER-DESIGNER
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61236P, TPS61022

Hi All,

We confirmed the ripple in PFM mode under the following conditions.
It's a great simulation.
webench.ti.com/.../117

I would like to know how to calculate the ripple voltage of TPS61236P in PFM mode.
Please tell me the calculation method.

Best Regards,
Ishiwata

  • Hi Ishiwata-san,

Let me check the simulation design. Normally the simulation is set to typical parameter to simulate basic behavior of the device.

Could I know why the PFM ripple is so concerned for you? Maybe I can check if there is a workaround for your application issue?

  • Hi Wenhao,

The customer I support wants to calculate the ripple in PFM mode. We are collecting information for that.
Therefore, I would like to confirm the contents of the simulation.
    Please cooperate with us.
Thank you for your great support.

How accurate is the delay time of the webench IC simulation model implemented?
Which parameters are taken into account in the delay time model, such as temperature fluctuations, individual differences, and input voltage fluctuations?

The webench link was incorrect, so I'll send it again.

  • Hi Ishiwata-san,

Thanks for simulation. I appreciate your work.

How accurate is the delay time of the webench IC simulation model implemented?

[WW]As far as I know, Webench derives from PSPICE model. The delay time is fixed internally. Typically this delay time is tested on a real bench. It is just trying to simulate "behavior" but not necessarily to be totally same as all cases in real world.

Which parameters are taken into account in the delay time model, such as temperature fluctuations, individual differences, and input voltage fluctuations?

[WW]I can check what is the delay time set in model, but typically for this delay time it is assumed no relations ship with temperature, craft variations or voltage.

  • Hi Wenhao-san,

    Thank you for your answer.

    In your comment that;
" I can check what is the delay time set in model "
Please tell me the delay time used in the webench.

    Best Regards,
    Ishiwata

  • Hi Ishiwata-san,

Here is the delay time for PFM. There are rising delay and also falling delay set by 2 different single direction R-C filter. Same as TPS61022, I do not recommend you consider how to calculate output ripple based on internal delay time. The comparator delay is not a fixed value and it can be influenced by internal multiply complex parasitics. I would recommend you test output ripple on bench under our recommended electrical operation conditions.

  • Hi Wenhao-san,

    Sorry for the late reply.

We will feed back the contents once received to the customer.
Thank you very much for your support.
