TPS6594EVM: Unable to connect and use the EVM

Part Number: TPS6594EVM

Hi TI-team,

I want to use and evaluate the EVM but I'm unable to connect it via the USB.

According to the User Guide I changed the Baudrate of the ACCtrl from 9600 to 115200:

But when I want to connect the GUI to the EVM nothing happens:

I tried to connect from two different PC's but on both I have the same issue.

Here a picture of the EVM, maybe I've overseen something at the jumpers:

...

Thanks in advance for your help!

BR,

Thomas

  • Sorry the picture upload wasn't successful.

  • Hello Thomas,

Try leaving the EVM set to 9600 Baud rate and use the second option on the opening page.

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Hello Michael,

many thanks for your reply and help. I tried now your solution, but I have still the same Problem:

    I tried

Baud rate 9600 with both TPS6594x-1.0 and TPS6594x

    as well as

Baud rate 115200 with both TPS6594x-1.0 and TPS6594x

I also tried to just Begin ealuating a Device with both Baud rates and I tried to set the jumper to VSYS connecting V3V3 an V5V0.

In every case I get following message:

Is there something I oversee or are there some background processes which might be blocked by some user policies?

PS.: I'm unable to choose a Port in the Select Prot Dropdown Menu.

  • Hello Thomas,

The EVM is not enumerated by the PC you're using; please check and try followings:

    •   Do you see the D6 LED lighted on when USB cable plugged in? If not, the EVM has hardware issue.

    • If D6 is turned on, please try another USB port or even another PC in case the USB port has issue.

    Thanks!
    Phil

  • Hello Phil,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes the LED light is on.

As mentioned in my first Post I tried to connect from 2 different Laptops without success. Additionally, I tried to use it on different USB ports (USB Hub, USB Port on Laptop and USB Port on Dockingstation).

In the meantime a colleague tried to use a second EVM on his Laptop (professional and private) on different Ports and had also no success. He had the same issues than me.

Gui Version if this could be the issue:

Is there something else which could be overseen or is the issue?

    Thanks!

    Thomas

    PS.: Jumper Positions:

    J15: VSYS - V5V0

    J30: 3V3

    J26: 2 - 3

J37 and J47: Slave (I tried every configuration with Slave and Master, just to exclude this possibility)

    J45: open

J20 and J21 are connected together (standard like delivered)

  • Hi Thomas,

I just wanted to inform you that the team is aware of your latest reply and should be getting back to you sometime tomorrow. Thank you.

    Regards,

    Alex

  • Hi Alex,

Thank you for the information. Yesterday in the evening (CEST) we were able to connect on one Laptop, but on the other 3 devices we have still the problems explained in the posts before.

On this PC it worked with starting the GUI via "run as administrator" even when logged in with an Administrator account. On the other devices we wasn't able to connect, even via administrator account and with "run as administrator".

I hope your team has an idea what there could be the problem.

    Thanks,

    Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

It's a very strange issue. I'll check with our expert good on the GUI with PC and then answer you tomorrow.

    Thanks!
    Phil

  • Hello,

From your device manager can you see the EVM?  This means that it has enumerated properly.

If the ACCtrl ports are higher numbers and you have other devices which are lower, then can you remove them and retry?  In your earlier post you showed changing the properties, but you should not need to do that.  Once connected you can change the BAUD rate from the gui.

    Regards,
    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

yes I can see the device in the device manager:

as you can see the device has higher COM port on my Laptop, but I cannot remove the lower devices because the only external device connected now is the Evaluation Kit.

I also tried to connect the Evalkit when starting the GUI as Administrator (giving Admin rights to my account and also when an Systemadministrator tried) and this also didn't work. In the GUI I cannot choose the COM port in the select port dropdown menu.

    Thomas

  • Please see below the GUI with device manager properties shown just before:

  • Hello Thomas,

Please remove the Bluetooth devices (disable the bluetooth on the machine).  We have seen this issue with other users.

    Regards,

    Chris

  • Thank you, Connection to EVM and to TPS via SPI now possible.
