TPS1H200A-Q1: Value of Pull-down resistor for current limit settings

Part Number: TPS1H200A-Q1

Hi, This is Chris from TI Korea.

One of my customers is using TPS1H200AQDGNRQ1 in their application (Built-in Cam).

They need Current limit for the output Load. They are looking for a guide for the pull-down resistor value settings for current limit. An excel sheet would be better, but could you please help me calculate the values?

- Vin 12V, Vout 12V

-Current limit 1.5A

- Iout : 1 A

Thank you.

  • Hi Chris,

If 1.5A is the minimum current limit value, then the customer needs to take the external current limit accuracy into account. With current limit greater than or equal to 1.5A, the accuracy will be within 10%.

Use the formula, the resistor value needs to be 0.8*(2500*0.9)/1.5=1200 ohm.

There will be the resistance accuracy rating for the specific resistor customer is choosing, and they need to consider that as well to guarantee the minimum current limit value will be 1.5A.

  • Hi Yichi,

    Thanks for the reply.

    1) What do you mean by external current limit accuracy?

    2) So does that mean the customer should make sure that min current limit value is 1.5A?

  • Hi Chris,

    1) It's the min and max value for KCL value.

    2) It really depends on customer's application. If customer just use typical value to calculate and set the current limit to 1.5A, there's a chance that the current will be limited at 1.35A. If it's acceptable in customer's application then they don't need to worry about the 0.9 factor in my calculation.

    Regards,

    Yichi
