BQ76930: Question about BQ76930+BQ78350+BQ7718

Part Number: BQ76930
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, , BQ7718, BQ78350-R1A

Hi

I'm going to design as below.

-spec-

Part: BQ76930 , BQ78350, BQ7718

Cell: 10S

-Question-

1. What's the priority of protective actions for BQ76930 and BQ78350?

2. How do you switch to shutdown mode when you use BQ76930 and BQ78350 ?

3. A total of two units will be applied by applying each BQ7718 per 5S.

I'm going to use only one MOSFET for 10S.

Can I control it with one MOSFET even if I have two BQ7718s?

4. I want to implement under temperature protection. Is there a way?

Thanks

  • Hello David,

    1. What's the priority of protective actions for BQ76930 and BQ78350?
For some protections, the BQ76930 may activate the protections first. But the BQ78350 is needed to recover from any/all protections that were triggered.

    2. How do you switch to shutdown mode when you use BQ76930 and BQ78350 ?
There are three ways to enter into SHUTDOWN, voltage-based, time-based or a shutdown command can be sent. See Section 8.4 SHUTDOWN Mode of the Technical Reference Manual.

    3. A total of two units will be applied by applying each BQ7718 per 5S. I'm going to use only one MOSFET for 10S. Can I control it with one MOSFET even if I have two BQ7718s?
Yes you can use a single MOSFET, you'd need to level-shift the output of the top BQ7718. See our reference design TIDA-00108 for a stacked BQ7718 design.

    4. I want to implement under temperature protection. Is there a way?
The BQ78350-R1A already has under-temperature protection in charge and discharge. See Sections 3.7.3 and 3.7.4 of the Technical Reference Manual.

If you have more questions, I would recommend to read our BQ76920, BQ76930, BQ76940 AFE FAQ document.
