TPS2595: TPS259540DSG response time calculation

Part Number: TPS2595

Hello team,

How to calculate the response time of TPS259540DSG depending on the established current limit?  Our customer wants to know how long will it take the eFuse to enter in the thermal shutdown mode with the following parameters: Vin = 12.5 V, current limit: 2 A, and a continuous overcurrent of 2.5 A for example. Those values are only an example, the main concern is to know how to estimate it.

Regards,
Carlo

  • Hi Carlo,

Thanks for reaching out. First thing would be the type of load. Let us assume CR load. So for 2.5A , load=12.5/2.5=5ohm. VOUT during current limit=2A*5ohm=10V.

Power dissipation across device = (VIN-VOUT)*ILIM=(12-10)*2=4W.

Now we have to refer power vs time to thermal shutdown plot in datasheet. The y axis shows the time device will take to thermal shutdown at a particular power dissipation value.

  • Hello Kunal,

Does it mean that the device would take 10.000 ms to enter the thermal shutdown mode in a normal application with a temperature of 25 degrees?

    Carlo

  • Hi Carlo,

For 4W power I calculated in earlier thread , it is time more than 10s.
