BQ34110: Cancel the Capacity Learning

Part Number: BQ34110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1, BQ34Z100, BQ40Z80, BQ78350

Hi all,

I wonder if it is possible to cancel the "Capacity learning (FCC Update)"?

In my application BQ34110 is powering by capacity in order to keep all parameters ( if BQ34110 is powered down, it gives me %3 or %4 wrong SoC value. That is why I do not power down the BQ34110)

But in this case, every time, when I use the full capacity from %100 to %0, it updates the FCC. But I don't want this. I want that it will learn the capacity when I want to "Calibrate". İs it possible?

  • Hello Mehmet,

FCC of the battery changes over time and therefore FCC updates are essential to report correctly.

bq34110 should not be powered down. bq34100 is for rarely discharged batteries. If discharging to 0% is frequent, then a different gauge may be better suited.

  • Can you please give a suggestion?

    I have 21V, 3A li-ion battery pack.

I think bq34z100-g1 will better,  it is also pin compatibla with bq34110. But i am not sure to change the battery gauge when i come to the almost end of project.

  • Yes, bq34z100 is better suited when the battery is regularly discharged and is a closer match to bq34110.

For regular gauging, you may want to look at bq40z80 if you have 6 or less cells in series. For more than 6 cells, see bq78350-R1A
