BQ40Z50-R3-DEVICE-FW: All TCA / TDA / XCHG / XDSG are set to High PF = Low and Max Error = 101%

Hi Experts,

I am a newbie in BQ40Z50-R3 chip and am now facing an issue/question:

The powerpack worked perfect until recently I tried to connect it to a charger it was not able to charge. Then with EV2400 the following are set.

TCA = High

TDA = High

XCHG = High

XDSG = High

PF = Low

Max Error = 101%

Tried to issue a RESET command to the device and it didn't work.

Since PF is low (no PF), this pack should be in some kind of protection state. What kind of protection would give a state like the above?

Also I noticed that the following are set:

GaugingStatus()[CF] = 1

BatteryMode()[CF] = 1

Hello Michael,

The CF flag indicates that a condition cycle is required. The pack was probably used under conditions that prevented the gauge from correctly gauging capacity. Try discharging the pack completely, then allow to rest for 5 hours, recharge and rest for 5 hours to recover.

Hi Shirish,

Many thanks for the help! I have done a full discharge and rested the battery for more than 5 hours. To see it's current status, I have also charged the batter for 5 seconds and now I can see that it is in the following state:

It still shows that BatteryStatus[XCHG] = 1 and OperationStatus[CHG] = 0. Does it mean that it still cannot be charged at this point?

Update: even if I force allowing charging with FET_EN command, it still returns to the above state shortly after I place it into the charger.

Hello Michael,

XCHG=1 means that charging is disabled. It is strange that MaxError is greater than 100. Also no safety flags are active.

Can you send the GG.CSV file from this pack?
