BQ76952: LOW SIDE DESIGN SLEEP MODE CHARGER DETECTION

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76952

Hello

To save power, I want to keep Charge mosfets off during SLEEP mode for low side design. Pack pin is already tied to pin. Is there anyway to make CHARGER DETECTION work for low side design, so device comes out of SLEEP and switches ON charge mosfets.

Please suggest.

Thanks

  • Hi Nitin,

Many circuits are possible.  When the BQ76952 is in sleep mode with the charge FET off it will periodically awake to check status as described in the technical reference manual.

With a MCU controlled system you could have the MCU detect the charger and change the status of the BQ76952.  I could also control a signal to pull up PACK for example. With low side switching there is not an easy way to have a voltage above BAT with the charger.

You can likely make a circuit to detect signal movement of PACK- due to charger connection and pull up the PACK pin to the BAT pin voltage. We don't have a reference design or configuration for such a circuit.  Check the technical reference manual for available configuration options and design a suitable circuit.
