TLC59281: TLC59281DBQR / TLC59283DBQR Rext value

Part Number: TLC59281
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC59283

For the TLC59281DBQR, the R-Ext is set to the datasheet equation.  Ok, now if I were to substitute a TLC59283DBQR, since this component is available, I will need to change the resistor value.  Is there a solution that I could use the same resistor the TLC59281DBQR uses and just substitute the component?   Or, is the internal constant-current sink driver that much different because of the internal reference voltage?  If the resistor needs to be changed, then it needs to be changed.

The question was brought to me to see if this was possible.  The intent is not to have a variant design but rather just to have a component substitution.

Electrolux,

  • Hi John,

it is not necessary to change the resistor in some situation.

you just need to calculate the Iout when using the same resistor and check whether it can meet the device's request.  Below pictures shows the details how to calculate the channel current.
