BQ34Z100-G1: How to get the updated SOC value

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCRB

Dear all,

I have a BQ34Z100-G1 with the learning process finished (learned status=06). Then I get the gg file with all the flash parameters. The gauge accuracy is correct, I get a lower than 1% error in SOC comparing the SOC value with discharging and logging the volt-current-time process

My question is:

If I replace the battery with another one (same model, same specs), what is required to do in order to get the real SOC value in the new battery. I know with only replacement, the SOC value is not enough (battery it is almost empty and the SOC value is 90%). Please explain how to get the updated battery SOC values once replaced it (Relax? Enable impedance track? reset? Or only wait the 4 secs to read the new SOC?

Regards

Jean

  • Hello Jean,

If the battery inserted is older/newer than the one that was in the gauge previously, it is likely the Ra and Qmax are not correct for the new cell, it may take several cycles to correct for any differences between the two. If a reset command is sent the gauge will base the initial SOC on voltage, which should be close if the cell inserted is relaxed.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Thanks for the answer.

I think to learn the new battery Ra and Qmax (by cycling several times) it is neccesary previously to send a It enable or Gauge Enable command, and then Reset, correct?

Another couple of questions to clarify please:

Regarding Resistance Temperature Compensation Optimizer (SLUUBD0), for low temperature performance. Is there a way to know if ChemID programmed in a gas gauge has a temperature optimized parameters? (file chemdad12). Because CHEMID command enquiry in BQ studio has the same result either if the chemid is the sent or the the received file from Ti GPC tool (once programmed with the corresponding file)

Analizing Ra Tables in DataFlash , can you know if the values are initial values or optimized ones after GPC tool? Any hint of how Ra values are modified with the tool?

    Regards

  • Hello Jean,

If the IT algorithm is off it should be on for the learning, if the cell inserted is relaxed you can send a reset command to start the learning.

No you would not know if the one you are using is GPCRB optimized. You would have to store that information in the manufacturing info block if it is critical.

    Sincerely,
