BQ24296: Power management Driver for android

Hello Supporting Team,
we are trying to implement a driver which is working with android 11, so far we managed to integrate the driver and to get the battery status and health, but we are not able to get the capacity, referring to bq24296 data sheet there is no bits for capacity in the i2c registers and there is no built-in fuel gauge.

So the question is, do we need an external IC (ADC or Coulomb counter) to get/calculate the proper capacity or how can we do so?

Hi,

The chargers are essentially power supplies to charge the battery only while the gauges are micro-controllers using ADCs and digital logic. Gauge provides the battery parameter measurements. Please use gauge if battery capacity information is needed.

Can you please clarify what do you mean by using gauge, dose it mean that bq24296 ic on it's own is not enough to read the battery capacity?!

Osama,

The BQ24296 is a charger to charge the battery. It does not provide battery monitoring or battery measurement functions.
