BQ78Z100: Single cell configuration

Hi TI team,

We already use the BQ78Z100 in a 2-series cell configuration and now we are planning to use the same IC for a single cell configuration.

I don't find any datasheet recommends if the resistor/capacitor need to be removed for the unused channel?

Do I have to connect the unused cell input VC2 to VC1 or is there any issue?

Do you have any recommendation to use this IC for a single-cell application?

Hello Michael,

The same components should be populated for both since this has to do with the power limiting since VC2 is the power input. Leave everything the same, but short the VC1 to VC2. the 1uF cap is also not needed since there would be no voltage difference.

Hello,

Thanks for your quick response. Please take a look on the revised example circuit. I removed the second battery cell and the 1uF cap and connected the VC2 pin over the 5ohm resistor to the positive side of the battery.

Is this circuit correct? Do you have any other recommendations?
