TPS50601A-SP: Control Loop Transfer Function

Part Number: TPS50601A-SP

Related to the discussion here

Can TI provide a transfer function for the control loop of the TPS50601A-SP?

Since Webench is not reliable for the TPS50601A-SP, it would be helpful to know exactly how changing any of the compensation resistors or capacitors will change system stability / response.

Blindly changing parts then simulating in PSPICE is a time consuming process that wastes design cycles.

  • HI,

Section 7.3.16 of the datasheet, Small Signal Model for Frequency Compensation, gives some guidance on how each compensation component affects the closed loop response.  These same equations are available in the published excel calculator (https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slvrbg4).  You should see the loop response 'shape' in the predicted manner as changes to these component values are made.  As no model is perfect, you should only expect to see a strong correlation to these calculations and not exact fits when simulating.

    Thanks,

    Christian
