BQ25892: - Can this be used as a standalone charger?

The design I'm working on will need standalone.

I haven't got this IC to supply any current, and the datasheet shows I2C connections on each of the application examples. It seems to be I2C control mainly

The requirements are 4A or more, nominal voltage 3.65V, charging voltage 4.2V, lithium ion, input voltage 5V ideally, variable charge current ideally also (2A and 4A switchable)

Hi Chris,

The BQ25892 requires I2C communication to change the charging profile. If no I2C available, the BQ25892 can only charge the battery with the default charging profile (VBAT=4.208V, ICHG=2.048A, I_prechg =128mA).

If you need a standalone charger, please check BQ25616 or BQ25616J. It can provide maximum 3A charging current, lower than your design requirement. The charging profile can be adjusted using hardware pin setting without I2C command.

Thank you Eric, I have been looking at the available 4A ones, 4A is the 'minimum maximum' current for the unit. I'm surprised so many don't have a control pin to make them fully manually set up.

Hi Chris,

Please check whether BQ24170 or BQ24172 meet your requirements They can charge 1S battery up to 4A. It has different architecture than the BQ25892 (NVDC). The system of BQ2417x will be slightly lower than the input adaptor voltage when the adaptor is present.
