Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61020
Hi, could you kindly help to support this boost IC questions?
When I am designing boost converter TPS61028, Tantalum (10uF C202 T491A106K016ATAUTO, 7 ohm ESR@250C 100kHz) in parallel with some MLCC(32.4uF totally, the capacitance might increase) are used on the whole circuit for this +5V boost output.
Key application conditions are listed below:
- Input voltage 3.3V, output 5V
- Load current range 50mA to 250mA
I also noticed something about capacitor selection, in TPS61028 datasheet page 16, There are some special notes about the output capacitor, an tantalum capacitor in parallel with MLCC is recommended. And it seems only MLCC with total low ESR might bring instability issue. ESR of capacitor is zero.
Here my question are:
- What about the phase and gain margin of the converter’s feedback loop? Not sure if there is stability issue for the current design. could you kindly help to simulate?
- If necessary, could you kindly help to optimize the part selection if stability or phase margin is not good?
- Since Tantalum is proposed to used, what kinds level of ESR must be met? and if Tantalum and MLCC is parallel to guarantee low ripple voltage, is there capacitance requirement for both capacitor?
Thank you very much for the kind help, please let me know if need more information.
