TPS54394: VIN spec confusion.

The datasheet for this part indicates a VIN range of 4.5 to 18V. The block diagram and text throughout the document show VIN1 feeding an internal 5V regulator. How is it supposed to regulate to 5V if the input is 4.5V?

    Hi Tony,

    VREG5 is mainly for internal MOSFET driver.  From the datasheet page 3. If the Vin1 is from 6V to 18V, the VREG5 is 5.5V. So for 4.5Vin, the VREG5 is around 4V which is higher than its UVLO voltage. The device can work properly. You can try it on Webench.
