BQ40Z50-R2: BatteryStatus()

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2

1. If the data is read and the data is updated at the same time, is the Read data the data before the update?
    Or wait for a clock stretch?

2. There is a battery with BatteryStatus()[0x16]  = 0x0487.
    At this time
    SafetyStatus()[0x50] = 0xffffffff
    SafariAlert()[0x51] = 0xffffff7f

    Is it okay to judge that this is a communication error like the thread below and does not affect the actual measurement?

3. Is it possible to read data while the battery output current is stopped due to a low cell voltage (over-discharged state)?

Regards,
Kagawa

  • Hello Kagawa,

    Yes if you are getting some kind of unknown error on the ECx bits it may indicate the communication is bad. I would discard the data associated with this transaction, visually it also seems to be incorrect for the safety status to be 0xFFFFFFFF.

  • Hello Wyatt-san,

    How about other questions ?

    1. If the data is read and the data is updated at the same time, is the Read data the data before the update?
        Or wait for a clock stretch?

    3. Is it possible to read data while the battery output current is stopped due to a low cell voltage (over-discharged state)?

  • Hello Kagawa,

    I'm not sure I understand, when you read any of the status registers it will report from the last update. If it's at the same time, it should clock stretch until the data is available.

    Depending on the voltage to the gauge it would be possible. The gauge can disable the FETs from CUV and still communicate afterwards.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
