As in the topic title, I need to know what is the difference between BQ24780S and BQ24780 battery charging ICs? Many thanks in advance!

Hi Lukasz,

BQ24780S is the improved version. They are pin-to-pin compatible devices.

I would recommend BQ24780S. It is also a public part so you will find lot better support on it.

I am looking for much more technical explanation as I'm the design engineer. What I found so far is that 780 does not have a Fast DPM feature which 780s does have, the System Power Monitor feature is a V-mode in 780 while an I-mode in 780s, and also the charging current limiter in 780 is set by either ILIM or Register while in 780s there is only a Register-based charging current limiter. The above questions the full compatibilty between these two devices, although they are - in fact - pin2pin compatible. Are there any other differences between them?
