BQ25730: pre-charge currents in the datasheet, 128mA, 256mA, and 384mA

Part Number: BQ25730

A quick test of the bq25730 EVM reveals that if bit AUTO_WAKEUP_EN is set, the device enters pre-charge mode. Register 0x02 (charge current) reverts to zero, and the battery is charged at constant current of 256mA. This has been verified in multiple setups, including customer's and mine.

Looking at the datasheet page 63, under the description of AUTO_WAKEUP_EN, it says "the device should automatically enable 128-mA charging current for 30 mins". Would you agree that this should be corrected to 256mA?

Under Electrical Characteristics table in page 11, I_PRECHRG_REG_ACC shows two values: 384mA and 256mA. When is the 384mA applicable? Why does the table shows settings for registers 0x03/02, if the device automatically adjusts them to zero?

Thank you!

  • Hi, Lenio,

The auto_wakeup current should be 256mA based on 5mohm current sense if enabled. Thanks for pointing it out. Alternatively, the host can set charge current register 0x02 to a small current, such as 256mA or 384mA, (leaving auto_wakeup_en=0) during the precharge stage.
