TPS73133-EP: TPS73133DBV input capacitor and output capacitor

Part Number: TPS73133-EP

The input capacitor and output capacitor of TPS73133DBV have a larger capacity than specified. (Specified 0.1 to 1uF, actually 47uF ceramic) Is there any problem in operation?

  • Hello,

Using a larger input capacitor will help improve line transient response. A larger output capacitor will help improve PSRR and load transient response. However, a serious drawback of increasing Output capacitance is that the inrush current during startup would dramatically increase. Its possible for the device to hit current limit (even thermal shutdown) during startup itself if the startup inrush current is large. Although not required for stability, we recommend that 1uF capacitors be used to attain the above mentioned benefits. Thanks!
