BQ35100: Power down 0mA

Part Number: BQ35100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400

Hi team,

Here's a case from the customer may need your help:

The customer required for A single-use lithium sub-cell 2 string. After each power-down of the correct protection board, the current changes to 0 and has to be corrected again to get back to normal.  What is the possible reason for that?

Could you help check this issue? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hello Cherry,

What is the mode of operation that this is seen in?

  • Hello Shirish,

For sub-Li-Ion 2-string 36Ah, 30 mA continuous discharge. After the board is calibrated, the power is removed, and the board is connected to the battery with a 1-A load, and the current on the upper computer is not responding, and the voltage cannot be corrected. It is needed to click on GAUGE STSRT to display the current, calibrate the voltage, and if click on GAUGE stop, the current does not respond.

However, as per the spec, after calibration, it needs to be turned off by clicking gauge stop. But the voltage current does not change after switching off. So can SOC be seen at discharge?

    Thanks and regards,

    Cherry

  • Hello Cherry,

The gauge will need to be calibrated in order to read the voltage and current correctly. What mode are you using for the gauge? The bq35100 can operate in 3 separate modes (ACC, SOH, EOS)

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hello Wyatt,

    Thanks for your help!

It's connected with the EV2400, upper computer Battery management studio version 1.3.110.

Is it needed to click "gauge stop"? The gauge doesn't seem to work after turning it off.

The bq35100 can operate in 3 separate modes (ACC, SOH, EOS)

How to configure these 3 modes? It looks like there are only EOS in the setup, the other two are not. Regarding sub-lithium cells, which one is the best choice?

    Below is the srec file:

  • Hello Cherry,

The image shows that it is in accumulator mode. See Operation Config A in TRM for details

To read voltage/current first send GAUGE_START. When done reading, send GAUGE_STOP

  • Hello Shirish,

To read voltage/current first send GAUGE_START. When done reading, send GAUGE_STOP

After calibrating, without sending a gather-stop and continue working, will there be any problem?

    Thanks and regards,

    Cherry

  • Hello Cherry,

Calibration is a one time requirement.

Gauge_Stop is sent to conserve power in normal operation when there is no load.
