UCC2897A: 52V to 12V 180W isolated solution

Part Number: UCC2897A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP9656

Hi team,

We are looking for 52V to 12V 180W isolated solution and do you have recommend reference design?

PMP7376 looks not on TI.com now and will it on TI.com again?

Thanks.

  • Hi Team,

    I would like using UCC2897A + NA5738-DL(Coilcraft) to do 54V to 12V 200W isolated power solution.

I found that the PMP7376 is using this combination.

TI web said : This reference design(PMP9656) replaces the now obsolete PMP7376 52-V to 60-Vdc input, 12-V/22-A active clamp forward reference design.

Is it something wrong with the PMP7376?

    thanks,

    Elvis

  • Hello Elvis,

If TI replaces a reference design then there was an issue and it was in everyone's best interest to stop promoting the design.  I see the NA5738-DL data sheet states only 52-60V input, while the replacement transformer (RA6992-BL) states 48V-60V input.  The 48V-60V is aligns perfectly with the design requirements of the PMP9656.  The change in input voltage range might be a clue why the older design was removed.

In any case, PMP9656 satisfies your requirements and should be considered the more reliable solution.

    Regards,

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

    thanks for your support!

    1. Our adaptor is 56V so I don't have a problem with 48V in.

    2. The price and RDC of NA5738-DL is less than that of RA6992-BL. So I choose NA5738-DL.

    3. Can I use NA5738-DL to replace RA6992-BL of PMP9656?

    thanks,

    Elvis

  • I cannot recommend NA5738-DL because PMP7376 was removed and I don't know exactly why.  I'm not in the group that creates the reference designs.  The voltage rating was one obvious difference but there could be other issues too.  It's unusual for TI to remove and replace a reference design!  I would warn against using NA5738-DL.

    Eric

  • HI Eric,

    thanks for your reply.
