TLC59283: Analog LED-Dimming via IREF

Part Number: TLC59283
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC59284, , TLC59282, LP5860

Hi,

We‘re developing a new LED Matrix Display and we're interested to implement one of these 16-Channel Constant Current LED Drivers “TLC59282” / “TLC59283” or “TLC59284”.

We need approx. 20x LED-Drivers for one LED-Display.

We want to control / adjust the LED current (brightness) of all LED-drivers with one signal from the microcontroller e.g. an adjustable resistor / an adjustable transistor or a small current source or?

But we didn’t want to use a PWM at the blank-input, because of EMI and to high peaks current pulses.

It’s possible to group the IREF-input of these 20 LED drivers together?

Thanks and Best regards,

Kai

  • Hi Kai,

I do not think connecting all IREF together is OK. Because IREF is the internal voltage reference output, there are little variation among different drivers. The lower voltage one would get current flow into driver, which makes driver cannot detect the external resistor correctly.

For LED matrix display, we have some integrated FET solution like LP5860, with register-based analog dimming function. You could take a look to see if it can meet your requirement.

  • Thank you for your reply!

    We almost guessed it ...

We'll take a look at this driver LP5850

    Thanks and Best regards,
