UCC28950: PSFB, shim

Part Number: UCC28950

Hi,

I am trying to make a Phase shift full bridge with UCC28950.

The leakage inductance is insufficient, so I am going to add it externally(shim inductor).

The toroidal core is overheating, so I am trying to change it to a ferrite core.

At this time, is a gap necessary for the ferrite core?

 Best Regards.

  • Hello,

I generally have magnetic design houses such as Wurth or Renco design the power magnetics that I use.

I do know that you do not want to use a saturable inductor and they are lossy.  I do believe it will require a gap if you are designing the magnetic yourself.

If you are going to design the magnetic yourself Mag-Inc has many useful application note that can help with the design.  You can find them at the following link. https://www.mag-inc.com/

    Regards,
