TPSM82823: TPSM82823-Webench error

Part Number: TPSM82823

Hi,

I had used Enpirion regulator EN5339QI in my design earlier and since it has become obsolete I had considered to use TPSM82823ASILR as alternate part. My design requirement is as below:

EN5339QI:

Vin=5V

Vout=3.3V

Iout=3A

But when I tried to simulate this in webench it states ''Design cannot be created''. Why am I facing this issue. But as per the datasheet the regulator can support my requirement. But I'm not sure for why i am observing this error. Do I have to change this regulator. Is it not right selection as replacement for EN5339QI . PLease confirm

  • Hi Shifali,

    Thanks for coming to us with your queries.

    I fill-up the Webench with your specs, and it works fine with TPSM82823SILR (see figure below). Can you try it again and limit the Vin to 5V to 5.5V?

    I checked the cross reference tool in TI.com, and the recommended device is TPSM82480MOPx. In the future, you can use the link below when looking for TI alternative parts.

  • Hi Excel,

    Thank you for your response.

    I am looking for adjustable regulator and hence TPSM82823ASILR would be my preferred choice. When I check the design simulation for TPSM82823A  in webench I get the error. I also tried with input voltage 5V to 5.5V. It still shows the error. I have shared image of the same.

    The webench design simulation works fine till the output current of 2.6A. If the output current is set to greater than or equal to 2.7A then it throws the error. What might be the reason for the same.

  • Hi Shafali,

    Thanks for your feedback.

    I was able to replicate the issue in Webench with Vout set at 3.3V. But if the output is set at 1.8V, there is no issue. In any case, I will forward this information with our modelling team so they can fix the limitation.

    Keep you posted for any updates.

    Best regards,

    Excel

  • Hi Shafali,

    Just a quick update. Our modelling team is now updating the TPSM82823A model to support up to 3A current at Vout = 3.3V. It may take at least two weeks to be available in TI.com.

    Do you have additional queries?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Shafali,

    If you don't have further queries, I will close this thread.

    Thank you.
