How to use Bq2060A with higher current ratings.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2060, BQ2040

Can I use Bq2060 or Bq2040 with current ratings upto 30A. If so what are the changes I have to make both ih hardware & software. In datasheet of Bq2060 i have read that we can use it for 12.5A by changing sense resistor value to 20milliohms. can i increase current rating further.

  • There is a hardware limitation. The SR1 -SR2 voltage has an absolute max rating of +-250mV. To prevent damage to the gauge, this should be kept to +-200mV over the majority of the operating region of the battery. This means with a 10 mOhm sense resistor you could theoretically get 20A and with a 5mOhm sense resistor you could get 40A. However, the smaller the sense resistor, the larger the VFC error will be, which means your current measurement won't be as accurate.  There is also a firmware limitation. The Current register is a signed 16 bit integer. Therefore you are limited to +32767A and -32768A.
