TPS61022: Spike noise on switch node waveform

Genius 4260 points

Part Number: TPS61022
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61021A

Hi,

Regarding the switch node waveform on TPS61022 D/S page17 (Figure8-3),There is no spike noise on it.

https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps61022.pdf

but similar device(TPS62021A) have obvious spike noise on D/S page16 Figure12.

Where do such differences between them come from?

  • Hi Sir,

Bandwidth of scope is usually the cause of difference. TPS61022 is a different part from TPS61021A and you cannot just compare them directly, especially for which package and layout is different.

If you see two waveform comes from same TPS61022 design, and one of which has ringing and one does not, test difference contributes this. For example, scope bandwidth, probe type (passive probe, active probe), grounding technique (long gnd wire, short gnd barrel technique) can lead to difference.
