UCC28180: Peeling of Bottom Marking

Part Number: UCC28180

Hello,

I need some advice here. This part is from COO mexico and i know that COO mexico produces some chips that shows peeling of the bottom marking.

I have seen it before on some other MPNs.

I would like to know if this phenomenon if normal (see pic, circled red)

I believe that the function is okay but outlook wise will it affect anything? (e.g. function)

  • Hello,

I need to consult our product engineering team as they are more familiar with packaging and production related issues.  Anticipating this question from them, would you be able to provide information from the label (from the reel) and/or a picture from a part from the same reel which clearly shows the inscribed part markings (top and bottom side)?

    Thank you,

    Ray

  • Hello Ray, these are the pictures that I have. Pls check it.

  • Hi Edmund,

Thank you for those images.  The parts on the reel appear to have a valid top-marking.  However, the marking on the device in the image you provided yesterday looks very different.  The letters and numbers that I can see don't match this top marking.

Can you clarify that the first image (with "peeling") was a bottom marking rather than a top marking?  If the first image was a bottom marking, please provide a picture of the bottom marking from a device without the "peeling".

Did the part you showed in the first image (or similar part) exhibit any functionality issues?

    Regards,

    Ray

  • Hi ray, yes. The peeling picture is the bottom marking as per my title of this thread. All the other chips in the same reel has peeled off bottom marking so they look the same as the first picture is sent previously.

No functionality issues as we have not used it yet. I want to make sure that the peel off is normal as i’ve seen other parts with the same coo having such phenomenon. (Coo mexico)

  • Hi Edmund.  Thank you for clarifying bottom vs topside.  I just wanted to make sure as I wasn't expecting to see any laser etching on the bottom of the package.  Regardless, I have fed this information to a product manufacturing specialist to try to get you an answer.

In the meantime, I must point out that it is unusual to see the lot information blacked out on the reel and box labels. Were these parts purchased off of TI.com or through a distributer?  If you used a distributer, which one?

    Thank you,

    Ray

  • Hi Ray,

Actually I'm asking on behalf of one of my supplier because they asked for help and I only got the pictures base on what you asked, and what they gave. Other than who they bought from i'm not really sure too. Neither am i sure if they sought help elsewhere before coming to me. But I do my utmost for my supplier if they need help.

  • Hi Edmund,

I'd like to continue this conversation in a private forum, so I'm going to close this ticket and send you a connection request.
