BQ20Z95 - General info

Hello,

Few questions:

1.       Does the bq20z95 has a time out if it doesn't get clock or data
from the host?

2.       If so what is the time out?

3.       How can I reduce the time between short circuit protection and

BR,

  • I'm not quite sure if you are referring to the general SMBus timeout or some global timeout for the z95.

If it is the latter, then no. The z95 does not need clock or data to continue operating. If the SMBus clock and data lines are held low for a period of time (configurable in data flash), then the gauge will go to sleep. If both lines are high, it just means the bus is idle. As for the SMBus timing protocol, the gauge follows SMBus 1.1, so all timeouts can be obtained from that spec.

Can you repost your 3rd question? It appears to have gotten cut off.

  • Thanks for your prompt response,

    here is the 3rd question

    3.       How can I reduce the time between short circuit protection and return to discharge without changing the threshold of the average current?

    thanks

  •

The Current Recovery Time gives you some timing control on recovery. The timer starts after the FETs turn off and the AverageCurrent starts dropping, so you will need to take that into consideration when setting the timer.
