TPS2828: Replacing TPS2828 with TPS2818 or TPS2816

Hi All,

We need to replace TPS2828 with TPS2818 or TPS2816. What would happen if we leave VDD pin of TPS2818 or TPS2816 floating. We don't have the option to tie it to Vcc unless changing our brd layout. Any insight would be appreciated.

The datasheet does recommend that the VDD pin be connected to VCC if the VDD pin is not being used (as you know). So, we cannot guarantee operation outside of what we specified.

But, if the VDD pin is left floating like you proposed, I think it should be okay; as long as VDD is NEVER connect to GND. This is because the body diode of the regulator would get biased and burn up.

I assume the reason for this part switch is due to part shortages?

Hi Aaron,

Thanks a bunch for your response above. Yes, this is due to the part shortage.

I will advise our team that we can use TPS2818 or TPS2816 and leave VDD pin floating.
