Hello All,

We are working on a small peltier module control circuit : 3.8Vmax - 2Amax - 1.6Ohm

Atfer runing some lab tests, we reached a compromise in operational parameters with a maximum current of 800mA (hich is enough for our application). and since this would be supplied by a battery,the driving current must be limited.

Going through this application note : SLUA979A, It appears that constant current might be more efficient than PWM driving 

and based on this : [FAQ] What motor drivers should be considered for driving Thermoelectric cooling (TEC) elements, or Peltier devices?. There are some pretty good drivers to use in such application. my issue is there either out of range of my requirements ( 3V - 0.8A) or currenlty out of stock.

I would appreciated if you can recommand any part number/application note compatble with this application

    For lower voltage operation, please consider the DRV59x family of devices.

    I have checked the DRV592.

    Is there a way to control the current internally without the need of external sensing circuit going to the MCU's ADC ?

    will the current have to be controlled by controlling the output voltage ( playing on the PWM Duty cycle) ?

    Is there a spice model for this particular part, or a similar one ?

    Unfortunately, we do not have any devices like that.  The loop would have to be closed externally and you are correct...PWM duty cycle adjusted.

    I have requested and downloaded Pspice for TI, but unfortunately the DRV592 is not available on it.

    any suggestions ?

    I don't support those devices directly, but in a lot of cases we don't have models for all devices.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Couple of questions please.

    - Can I use different voltages for AVDD and PVDD ? if so, would the the VIH/VIL thresholds be depandant to AVDD ?

    - As for the Over-current fault, does the device completely shuts down or only goes into HiZ mode ( 2kOohm pulled down)?

    - For the undervoltage protection, based on the description it is triggered when supply voltages are below 2.8V, would I still be able to use the boundary supply voltage of 2.8V, or I better leave some room ( 3V perhaps)

    Also, could you please review the attached circuit ? I have tried to model the functional behavior of the DRV592,  would appreciate it if you could confirm or deny the function similarities ( as my client is requesting simulated POC).

    the active filter part still needs some tuning.

    AVDD and PVDD can be any voltage between 2.8 to 5.5V it is OK to use different supply voltages. the VIH, VIL thresholds will not change with AVDD

    The Best explanation for the behavior of an overcurrent event can be found on page 10 of the D/S. The over current event will cause the outputs to go Hi-Z for 3-5us and then the device resets

    "The over-current fault is reported when the output current exceeds four amps. As soon as the condition is sensed, the over-current fault is set and the outputs go into a high-impedance state for approximately 3 µs to 5 µs (500 kHz operation). After 3 µs to 5 µs, the outputs are re-enabled. If the over-current condition has ended, the fault is cleared and the device resumes normal operation. If the over-current condition still exists, the above sequence repeats."

    While 2.8V is within the recommended operating regions of this device if there is concern of having large ripple on the supply voltage then leaving some room (3V for example) may be a good idea.

    I am not sure how to open the .asc file type. If I where to review the schematic I would compare it to the Typical application circuit on page 8 of the D/S

    The .asc file i attached is an Ltspice simulation attempt of the DRV592 functional behavior.

    Did Arthur's feedback answer your questions? If not, could you please clarify what is still unclear and provide the proper schematic as well (not an .asc file)?
