BQ24072: recharge

Part Number: BQ24072

Hi Team,

Customer used BQ24072.The battery will not be recharged until the voltage drops to Vrch. If equipped with a fuel gauge, the following will occur:

When the power is above about 90%, the adapter will not be charged, and it will only be charged when it is used below 90%. How can he achieve 100% charge when connected to the charging head at any power like a mobile phone?

Thanks,

Annie

  • Hi Annie,

Are you referring to 90% of the VBATREG voltage? Are there waveforms to better show this behavior so we can diagnose? Something that would be helpful is the /CHG voltage, BAT voltage, and battery current when BAT is below 90% and above 90%.

  • Hi Anthony Pham,

Managed with BQ24072, VBAT(REG)=4.2V, That is, it is 4.2V when fully charged. VRCH=4.1, that is, when the battery voltage drops below 4.1V, it will be recharged.

    Question:

For example, when the battery voltage drops to 4.12V, the power of the fuel gauge is not 100%. Assuming that it is 95%, then the charging head will not be charged at this time. The battery is not full, why not charge it?

    Thanks,

    Annie

  • Hi Annie,

This is how the device is designed.

If the desire is to keep the battery at 100%, it is recommended to toggle the /CE pin to keep the device charging or to select a low termination current.

The concern with keeping it constantly charging the battery is to prevent overcharge and maintain the health of the battery.
