BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW: Firmware for different I2C address needed

Part Number: BQ78350-R2-DEVICE-FW

Dear TI support,

we built up a prototype with an BQ78350 and a BQ7693006.

Unfortunately we realized, that the BQ78350 is not automatically adapting the I2C address from 0x08 to 0x18 - isn´t it? It´s really hard to figure out, that not all BQ769x versions are compatible to the BQ78350!

We took the -6 version (with level shifters designed in) because the -0 version was not available from stock anywhere.

Would it be possible to get a firmware with this 0x18 I2C address?

Best regards,

Achim

  • Hi Achim,

The problem with the BQ7693006 is not the I2C address (the BQ78350 will automatically adapt to use 0x18). The problem is the LDO voltage - 3.3V is too high for the VCC pin of the BQ78350. You need to use a version with the proper 2.5V LDO voltage.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

But this means with a LDO between and a Level shifter for I2C ist should work?

    Best Regards,

    Achim

  • Hi Achim,

I was mistaken in my first response. The BQ78350 expects the I2C address to be 0x08, so it is not compatible with the 0x18 address devices. It is not possible to change the firmware for this.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

thats really bad because ist the only one available! If we dont find a Solution for this address issue we‘ll loose a Project :-(

please could you proove that there is no Solution….

TI should state this issue clearly in the datasheet!!! It’s the First time that im really disappointed by TI! We use so many BQ products since many years in series production….

    best regards,

    Achim

  • Hi Achim,

I agree we can make this more clear in the datasheet. The main reason users order the devices with the 0x18 address is for cases where they need to communicate with more than one device in the system and need another unique address. I realize supply shortages are causing some unexpected issues.

I checked with our marketing team and it looks like the BQ7693001 should come in stock on ti.com later this week. If you are working with a TI sales person, they may be able to help you put in an order for the BQ7693000.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

yes this would be god for other customers to make this clear!

It´s good to hear, that the -01 will be available soon, but pleas consider that we already built up prototypes and have 180 -06 parts in our stock. Be be really helpful to adopt the I2C address in BQ78350!

    Best regards,

    Achim

  • Hi Achim,

A BQ78350 update is not that simple and has to go through full validation testing. Firmware modifications are very rare and require resources and time.

    Regards,

    Matt
