TPS53318: TPS53318 VS TPS53319

Part Number: TPS53318
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53319,

Dear Team,

I would like to ask you about TPS53318 and TPS53319.
1. Are they fully pin to pin? In addition to the current capacity, one is 8A and the other is 14A, what are the main differences?
2. The following TPS53318 circuit helps to review, is there anything that needs to be modified?
3. The 3.3V load in our system has increased by 0.56A. Can TPS53319 directly replace TPS53318, chock, and output Capacitance?

Many Thanks,

Jimmy

The TPS53318 and TPS53319 share a common datasheet.  The only differences between the devices are the programmable range of their current limit function (TRIP to GND resistor)

With a load current increase of 0.56A, I would recommend checking the OCP limit currently programmed by the TRIP resistor (R1078 78.7kΩ) and determine if there is still sufficient margin between expected load and the OCP limit, and if there is not, increate the TRIP resistor correspondingly.

  • Hi Peter,

    We appreciated your great support!

Our project is to modify the original mass production project.
The application of the original mass production project ①IC 53318 current 8A ②OCP setting resistance Rtrip=78.2K about 6.9A, ③chock rated current 9.2A
After the revision, the demand for VDD3_3V_STBY has increased by a maximum of 0.56A
The changes are as small as possible, and the following changes have been made. Help to confirm whether it is feasible?
    1. Replace the U85 IC with a TPS53319 through-flow 14A pin to pin chip.
    2. R1078 Rtrip is changed to 91K, and the OCP is calculated to be 8.05A
    3. The inductance value of L8 remains unchanged at 2.2uH, and the rated current is changed to 10.5A

    Many Thanks,

    Jimmy

  • Jimmy,

Your revisions seems well reasoned.  If you need an extra check

You can use the excel sheet here  https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sluraz7 and select the tps53319 or tps53318 to check any design differences.
