TPS65161: only use VS boost converter

Part Number: TPS65161

Hi,

If I have only used TPS65161 VS power domain, other VGH/VGL/VLOGIC are no use,

How do I connect on those pin?

Can I let all pin floating? or short to GND? or those pin connect to correspond component is necessary?

Thanks!

Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

Thank you for your post. I have few other tasks to handle ahead of this one but should be able to feedback to you in the next couple of days. I need to review TPS65161 datasheet in detail to be able to answer your query about how to connect unused function pins. Thank you for your patience.

    Kind Regards,

    Liaqat

  • Hi Jeff,

Reviewing the data sheet, it appears that boost only operation (VS) will not work because boost can only be ramped once buck converter is enabled and is in regulation. Without buck enabled and in regulation, boost will not start.

  • Hi Liaqat,

Okay, so buck converter must to exist for VS.

And how about the VGH/VGL? Can let relative pin floating?

    Thanks!

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

Reviewing the datasheet, I do not see a function that monitors the charge pump voltages for regulation. So it should be possible to not implement the charge pump circuits and the boost and buck should still function. But This device was designed to provide complete bias supply for LCD including boost, buck and charge pumps and that is how we have validated the silicon. So my suggestion is to implement the charge pump circuits but if customer does not want to implement them, they can connect FBN pin the GND, FBP pin to the output of REF pin and leave DRP/DRN floating. This will at least bias the feedback pins to expected levels of normal operation and the device will think that charge pump circuits are connected. Again, we have not validated the silicon in this configuration.so customer should do their own through board validation.

    Kind Regards,
