Hello Olivier,
Normally the inductor will be calculated so that the ripple current is about 40% of the output load current (full load capability of the device).
If they want to minimize the inductor size, I would suggest using a bit higher switching frequency and perhaps designing for 50% ripple in the inductor. They can refer to the quick start excel based calculator here:
