UCD9090: Register status report 0x74 randomlu

Part Number: UCD9090

Hi experts:

Hope you are doing well. I'm Marsh, FAE for HYC, leading T&M supplier.

Now HYC, reported a question about the UCD9090.

1, Can you help to explain the reason for the phenomenon: Sometimes, some rail's register's status will be 0x74. this means Vout UV Fault is triggered, however there's no protection action detected. (By test, the protection function is enabled, and the protection function is good.) ( the register status are as shown in the pic.)

2, Can you help to explain the reason for the phenomenon: In their application, registers are read for every 30 minutes. And without reset, the status of the register that reported 0x74 30 minutes ago will be 0.

  • Hi

    Please see my comments below.

    1. do they have glitch filter enable? if so, device will report fault status but there is no action taken until the glitch time is passing

    2. Do they ever issue clear fault command to clear status?

    Regards

    Yihe

  • Hi Yihe,

Thanks a lot for your kind reply.

1, Glitch filter is disabled. Customer confirmed this in GUI. They test UCD9090 by GUI, and Disable is selected.

2, They didn't conduct the clear fault command to clear the status.

3, The input signal is a DC voltage signal.

If you have any thing need me to confirm, please feel free to point out.

    Thanks & BRs

  • Hi

That's very interesting. the status is latched so that they shall not self-clear unless the communication has problem .

Can you share the project file used by customer?

is this on customer board or TI EVM?

If it is on customer board, does the I2C host support clock- stretching?

    Regards

    Yihe

  • Hi yihe,

Thank you so much for your analysis. Let's move to outlook to share the project file.

1, This phenomenon was shown on the customer Board.

    2, Host doesn't support the clock-stretching.

    Thanks and best regards.

  • Hi

The clock stretching is required to have a reliable communication. This may be the issue.

    Let's discuss in the email.
