BQ76952: Discharge FET Failure Consult

Part Number: BQ76952

Hi Team,

Customer has two application questions about our BQ76952 usages, pls kindly help us comments here. Thanks.

1. If the discharge FET is shorted,  are there some ways for BMS to close battery output here?

2. Customer sets Settings:FET:Chg Pump Control[CPEN] and Settings:FET:FETOptions[FET_CTRL_EN] register to "0", CHG and DSG pin continually output voltage, which will consume power and prevent BMS into shutdown mode. What's the possible root cause or workarounds here?

Best,

Stanley

  • Hi Stanley,

There is a DFETF Permanent Fail that can be used to blow a fuse if the DSG FET fails or is shorted. You can see more details about this feature in the TRM.

When you set CPEN=0 and FET_CTRL_EN=0, the FETs should be disabled. When they are disabled, the output of DSG and CHG will be the BAT pin voltage. When the FETs are enabled, the voltage on DSG and CHG will be the BAT pin voltage + 11V.

    Best regards,

    Matt
