Hi there,

Can anyone offer more insights about the FW bug to cause BQ27750 discontinuation?

We have products that use bq27750 and recently observed some of the failures might relate to that FW bug.
Wonder if we can get more information so that we can decide to keep using it or replace it asap.

Hello Simon,

We recommend that you replace the bq27750 with BQ27742-g1. It is not pin compatible.

Thanks for your reply.

Understood the option to replace bq27750.

But it would be helpful to understand the details of the FW bug/failure mode/trigger condition for our products in the field, existing inventory, and the effort/time/cost dedicated to the replacement project.

I can't share exact details on E2E. There is no way to reproduce the problem with a dedicated trigger and it isn't dependent on any conditions, it's just a matter of chance and as the notice says, it affects memory and therefore can cause all kind of failure modes.

Hi Dominik,

Thanks. The issue we have encountered is all related to the deeply discharged battery. Then plugging into the USB charging cable could not be able to charge the battery or bring the IC out of the shutdown mode I would say. The Vchg is always pulsing and Vpack from the charging ic is duty cycling. We thought it might be from the floating battery voltage but now I am wondering if it could be FW bug. Do you see something similar?

In addition, if this bug happens, could that be a transient condition and corrected by like higher battery voltage?

I don't believe the two are related from what you're seeing and the bug that was discovered regarding memory.

Isn't the bug related to not being able to wake up the IC from a sleeping/hibernation state?

Hello Simon,

As Dominik mentioned, the failure is occurs in memory, this means the failure mode can be many different things. It could be that some packs become bricked (not being able to wakeup) after the issue occurs.
