BQ25895M: I2c Controlled Charging IC

Part Number: BQ25895M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25606

BQ25895MRTWR is an I 2C Controlled Single Cell Fast Charger, Can we use it with out i2c Interface. In the datasheet section 8.3.1( Host Mode and Default Mode),What are the limitations on using the default mode.

  • Hi Sebastian Sobin,

Yes the device can be used in default mode without I2C communication. The limitation of operating in default mode is that you will have to use the default charging parameters listed in Table 4 (page 22) of the datasheet and all register settings, which begin on page 33, will also be default.

By operating without I2C control you will lose the ability to adjust parameters such as charge current, battery voltage regulation, etc. TI also has some single cell chargers that are specifically designed for standalone operation, such as the BQ25606. These standalone chargers give you the ability to set key charging parameters via IC pins using resistors.
