TPS259472ARPWR: Questions about temperature range of device relative to the UL and CB certificates

It appears from the relevant standards in the certificates, that this component has an upper temperature range limit of 70 °C per the UL component certification (assuming that this means an ambient temperature), but the datasheets seem to imply that it can have a much higher Junction temperature. Our intended use for this product will have it in an environment that may occasionally reach (and possibly exceed briefly) 70°C. Do you have any data relating Ambient temperature to Case temperature (which we can measure) to Junction temperature (which we cannot measure) under different conditions? This way we could do some testing on our own and make sure that our case temperature does not exceed the rating. Do you have any test data showing the reliability of these parts (TPS259472ARPWR) at ambient temperatures over 70C and maybe a de-rating curve?

The test data we have would be in the datasheet under the graphs section. If the data you are looking for is not in the graphs section then unfortunately we do not have them.

Let me ask this in a slightly different way, we have a lot of the data we would want from your data sheet, but do you have anything that relates (even at a generic level for the package, as opposed to the specific part) the Junction Temperature to the Case Temperature? We want to be able to do our own testing, and show that in the worst case scenario for our use that our case temperature would not exceed X and therefore the Junction temp will not exceed Y and we are safe. Or is there data not in your data sheet, from when you were running the tests for the standards, that would show a broader temp range than what was used in the standard?

Also to be clear this question is in relation to the TPS259472ARPWR eFuse and not the TP2549 USB charging port chip.

This appears to be from the TPS2549 or some other datasheet, and not the TPS259472 datasheet. I think that is part of the confusion here. I am looking for information on the TPS259472ARPWR (5.5A eFuse) not the TPS2549 (USB protection). Does this information apply to both chips or all chips with the same package?

Hi Leonard,

You have to ensure that average junction temp of device is between -40 and 125. Based on this you can decide ambient temp.

TJ=TA+PD*RQJA.

You can assume junction temp to close to case temp for this device. So if you are using thermal camera to get top case image it should show temp below 125C.
