LM5158: Flyback convertor using LM5158

Hi,

I am in process of designing a power supply with following specifications:

Input Voltage: 21vdc to 27.7vdc, Nominal 24vdc

Output Voltage : 27vdc

Max output current : 0.6A

Isolation : Yes

I have selected LM5158 based on a suggestion from TI personnel, but it does not have TINA model. It has only SPICE model and throws up errors in PSPICE for TI.

Can anyone suggest how to obtain a TINA model? (Note: My org has NDA with TI)

Also, if you have suggestions for using any other IC other than LM5158, please feel free to suggest.

    TINA is an older Spice simulator and has been replaced by the newer PSpice for TI simulator. Therefore the newer devices will only receive models for PSpice for TI.

    Maybe you can let us know the error you receive so that we can help you to get your design running on PSpice for TI.

    Thank you for the reply.

    I tried simulating in PSPICE for TI, but I am not able to get any output.

    The simulation takes a long time to run. With 5ms, it completed 100% in 30mins without any result.

    I am sorry you did not receive a reply for a long time.
    I looked into the PSpice Model and run some test on the LM5158 transient model, which is also presented for download on the product page.
    In general, PSpice can require longer simulation times in comparison to TINA models, which can easily take up to 20 minutes for a transient simulation of 10ms. On the positive side, the results can achieve higher accuracy.

    If you run a simulation and do not see any plots on the result screen, the problem often comes from convergence issues. The simulator then shows an error in the output window, which is easy to overlook.

    For debugging, I can recommend to download the PSpice transient model and do a simulation run right from the start with the pre-entered settings. The models uploaded on the TI page are tested and verified before the upload, so if you cannot run the pre-set simulation, the problem might be with your PSpice for TI installation. If the simulation runs properly, you can go on from there and modify the circuit to match your desired parameters.
